·        He was a scottish poet & lyricist 

·        Born  on 25 January 1759  at Alloway , Ayrshire , Scotland 

·        His poem Auld Land Syne  and  Scots Wha Hae served for a long time as an unofficial  National Anthem of Scotland 

·        Notable works such as  Auld Land Syne   ,   To a mouse  ,  A Man’s a man for A ‘ That  ,  Ae Fond kiss  ,  Scots Wha Hae  ,  Tam O’Shanter ,  Halloween ,   The battle of Sherramuir
·        He began romantic overtures to Alison Begbie . In spite of four songs written to her & suggested that he was willing to marry her , she rejected him 
·        His friend Captain Richard Brown had encouraged him to become a poet 
·        He fell in love with  Mary Campbell  dedicated  the poems Highland Lassie O ,  Highland Mary  ,  To Mary in Heaven  to her 
·        At the age of 37 , Burns had  died  on  21st July 1796  in Dumbries , Scotland 
·        Through his twelve children , Burns has over  600 living  descendants as of 2012
·        In 2009 , STV  Television ran a T.V series  & public vote “ who is the greatest Scot of all time “ ,  Robert Burns won an honour .


·        Soviet Union is the first country in the world who honour burns with stamp in 1956
